Using ChordAXE in Pro Tools
Record MIDI Plugin Output to Get Chord Notes
👂 🖐️ Create instrument chord tracks by ear and feel
🔴 🎹 Capture your generated MIDI for optional note editing
Install ChordAXE PT with Avid Link or get the full plugin
Then download one of the Pro Tools demo files to try out the setup shown in the video
Control ChordAXE with a keyboard or MIDI clips. Use the MIDI Editor to make chord changes and express them with rhythmic patterns. Then record the ChordAXE MIDI output to a separate instrument track to capture the notes produced from your changes and patterns. This method avoids having to drag and drop notes from a generator, and preserves all the timing and feel that you create live. BASIC SETUP (1 TRACK) • Insert ChordAXE as a MIDI plugin on any Instrument Track (ahead of the instrument) • Control ChordAXE from a keyboard or MIDI clip to drive the instrument RECORD THE CHORDAXE MIDI PLUGIN OUTPUT (2 TRACKS) • Add a second Instrument Track to record the MIDI output • Check: View > Edit Window Views > Instruments (or do the same for Mix Window Views) • Locate the MIDI Input selector on the second track under INSTRUMENT • Set second track MIDI Input selector to > ChordAXE track > MIDI Chain > Chain Out • Record the output of the ChordAXE track to this track • Use or edit the recorded MIDI to play any instrument plugin (on any track) 😎 PRO TIP You can drive an instrument on either track (or optionally both). For a simple 2-track setup, move the instrument to the second track where it will be driven by editable notes recorded from the ChordAXE track.
