ARTonic Music Launches ChordAXE — Free MIDI Plugin for Expressing Chord Changes by Ear
San Francisco Bay Area — September 18, 2025 — ARTonic Music today announced the launch of ChordAXE, a groundbreaking free MIDI plugin that turns chord progressions into a playable, expressive experience inside any DAW. Designed for songwriters, producers, and composers, ChordAXE allows creators to explore, voice, and express harmony by ear, feel, and intuition — without needing music theory or keyboard chops. “ChordAXE turns chord progressions into musical elements you can play and finesse in real-time, while focusing on the flow instead of specific notes and scales,” said Scott Silfvast, co-founder of ARTonic Music. “We built it to make harmony tangible and expressive for everyone, from beginners to experts.”
The playable Mesh view reveals how all chords relate to the key Tonic “T” in the center.
The MIDI view maps chords and patterns to keys, and shows live-generated chord notes.
A New Way to Create Chordal Harmony
• Explore → Voice → Express — ChordAXE channels the natural songwriter/composer workflow into DAWs, while freeing users from the constraints of keyboards, fretboards, and theory rules.
• Two Views — The unique “Mesh” view visualizes harmonic relationships in a butterflied circle of fifths, showing how chord changes flow relative to a song’s key tonic. A straightforward MIDI view maps chords and expression patterns to two octaves of keys that control timing and feel.
• “Traced” Progressions — Navigate virtual instruments through well-voiced chord changes one finger at a time. Preset “traces” from iconic songs are included; the full version lets users trace their own progressions.
• Rhythmic Patterns — Break up chords with grooves and arpeggiations to turn static chords into living rhythm. Drive patterns with MIDI or built-in presets, and record the generated MIDI to capture notes for editing.
Free to Start, Easy to Upgrade
ChordAXE is available as a free download at https://www.chordaxe.com with an optional $49 full version that adds more presets, deeper voicing control, and the ability for users to trace their own progressions. The MIDI plugin works with all virtual instruments on all major DAWs including Logic Pro, FL Studio, Ableton Live, and Pro Tools. ChordAXE PT is available as a free download via Avid Link for all Pro Tools subscribers. A touch-controlled version for iPad is coming soon.
